What if we get it right?
A question has been doing some work in my mind today.
The question is posed by marine biologist and inspiring human Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson:
What if we get it right?
We are careening, in so many ways, towards death, towards chaos, madness, and ultimately extinction.
But we don't have to live this way on Planet Earth.
What if we got it right?
What kind of future can we still create?
We can still create a future where we understand ourselves to be deeply interconnected with each other (and by "each" I mean to say "EVERY" and by "other" I mean to say "all else, not only human but also mussel, moss, and mountain).
We can still create a future where we experience deep love.
Love for ourselves. Where we love ourselves so much that we break out of the loops of self-harm that we are, each one of us caught in.
Love for our human kin, loving each other so deeply, recognizing that the healing and transformation of every one of us is required for a desirable future to exist for any of us.
Love for every other part of this beautiful ball of stardust we call home, ceasing to take advantage of any other "resource", species, or group, recognizing where goes one go we all.
We can still create a future where beautiful places can be protected to thrive in their own way without the catastrophic effects of our extractive intervention.
We can still create a future where we are free to be at ease, hopeful, and healthy.
The beautiful thing this is, we already know what to do! We know how to access clean energy, make our homes and businesses more efficient, how to raise food in regenerative ways, eat food that is healthy and does not destroy us and the earth in its production. We know how! We do not have to exist this way on Planet Earth!
We can still do it. It will however, take immense creativity and passion. Less shame and fear.
Those haven't proved to be very good fuels for powering the transformation into greener and more regenerative ways of being.
More love, more commitment to creating opportunities for joy to exist in our future. More love for ourselves, each other, our children and grandchildren, more love for this beautiful existence.
What if we get it right?
